The first step was POR-15 Rust Prevention Coating<\/a>, which was probably unnecessary given the distinct lack of rust that we found but we didn’t know what we’d discover when this was planned.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, what we hadn’t planned for is the weather, or more specifically the temperature. Painting outdoors in March in Pacific Northwest was probably not the best of ideas. POR-15 needs 2-5 hours to dry between coats, and you need apply two coats minimum!<\/p>\n

After the two POR-15 coats dried we had to apply Rust-Oleum Automotive Primer, followed by Rust-Oleum Satin Black Enamel. This led to a late-night painting session that we have tried never to repeat again!<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the end result exceeded our expectations.<\/p>\n

We decided to do the undercarriage first because it would be mostly covered up with sound absorber. This meant it was the perfect test ground and proved, at least to us that this was the right approach for the rest of the chassis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
