It’s not clear if our truck had the stock alternator installed but it had an output rating of 80 Amps. We wanted to ensure we had enough power to power all the additional electrical load we expected to install, such as lights, navigation etc.
We contacted Delco Remy directly, who replied promptly and where very helpful. They recommended a Delco Remy 24SI 8600467. This is a standard J180 hinge mounted alternator which produces 110 Amps at 24V.
We decided to paint it to match the engine color scheme. Dismantled it was pretty straight forward but it wasn’t possible to remove the entire circuit board, so plenty of masking tape was necessary.
It was them primed with Rust-Oleum Automotive Primer and painted with their Chevy Orange Engine Enamel.
With the end result being very striking and satisfying!
The install will have to wait until the rest of the engine is painted!
