After doing plenty of research into painting the truck, it became clear that getting stable base to paint on top of was critical. They say preparation is key and I think I finally understand why, it’s by far the most time-consuming step of painting but it’s definitely worth it.
Unfortunately, the truck had received multiple coats of paint, and probably no paint removal in its 30-years. To make matters worse the last layer was a latex household paint that was barely sticking to the body work.
We found Alpine Eco Blasting, a local eco-friendly sandblasting company, who did a fantastic job blasting the underside of the cab. The process took about 2-hours, including setup time and was relatively straight-forward.
The end result was a completely bare undercarriage, with no rust, to our surprise!
